What is Lasting Impressions?

A sculpture making process created by myself that I began facilitating in 2019, based on the growing extant research in effective use of relational therapy. It is suitable for groups of 2-4. Although, the session encourages feelings of closeness and intimacy between the participants, I remain in the session throughout. This ensures focused and controlled expression of each participant's feelings and emotions on the other individual/s and in relation to the sculpture.

What is the purpose of Lasting Impressions?

It provides a unique experience to explore relationship and deepen connection.

Do I need to have had previous experience in sculpturing?

No prior sculpture-making experience is necessary and it is suitable for all individuals above 6 years (due to ability to remain relatively still for 20 minutes).

Why choose the Lasting Impressions therapy session and tool?

Previous participants describe the final sculpture as a multisensory memory or photograph. While the final piece is aesthetically pleasing, it only becomes whole when all participants come back together to touch the sculpture as they did during its formation. It's a tangible reminder of an intimate moment with family, friends, or loved ones.

How have previous individuals benefitted from participating in a Lasting Impressions therapy session?

  • It has provided insight into strengths and weaknesses of a relationship to uncover needs of individuals in the relationship and better understand how to build closeness.

  • It provides a take-home multi-purpose tool: the sculpture can be used as a physical reminder to make space and allocate time for the relationship; it can be held to reinforce the emotions felt during the session; the sculpture is a form of memorabilia kept in the participants' home that acts as a reminder of a piece of art that was created by the participants together during a unique and often emotive experience.

"Sitting together and holding the sculpture for the protracted period while it dried made me sit with our relationship and bring to the surface what it is now. In this case that turned out to be a lot of good ... So I am glad to have this sculpture as a memory of that for the future!"
